Enclave compromise via unchecked host signal forwarding
Published Jan 10, 2025 · Updated Jan 14, 2025
Signal injection in Gramine before 1.6 allows attackers controlling the host OS to compromise SGX enclave application confidentiality and integrity. The Linux-SGX PAL exception handler forwards an untrusted software signal into the enclave without verifying that trusted SGX EXITINFO reports the matching hardware exception. Control of the untrusted host operating system is required; an injected signal can arbitrarily trigger an enclave application signal handler.
