Cross-site scripting via JavaScript-link escaping bypass
Published Feb 21, 2024 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
XSS in Liferay Portal 7.2.0 through 7.4.1 and affected Liferay DXP 7.2 and 7.3 releases allows remote attackers to inject script. HtmlUtil.escapeJsLink fails to neutralize crafted javascript: style links, allowing browsers to interpret attacker-controlled script or HTML instead of a safe link. Exploitation is unauthenticated but requires a user to follow or render the crafted link, limiting execution to that user's browser context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
