CVE-2024-25133Network attack vector

Cluster-admin escalation via AWS credential process execution

Published Dec 31, 2024 · Updated Aug 27, 2025

Improper access control in OpenShift Hive allows remote authenticated users to gain cluster-admin privileges through crafted AWS credentials. The controller writes an aws_config value from a ClusterDeployment credential secret without rejecting credential_process, allowing the AWS SDK to execute its command in the hive-controllers pod. Developer access to create the resource and referenced secret is required; the command runs with the controller service account's cluster privileges.
