CVE-2024-25129

Local file exfiltration via external XML entities

Published Feb 22, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024

XXE in GitHub CodeQL CLI before 2.16.3 allows attackers to read local files through untrusted databases or QL source archives. Its auxiliary-file XML parser resolves attacker-controlled external entities and places selected local-file content in an outbound HTTP URL. Exploitation requires a user to process a modified database or prepared source collection; routine scans with trusted query packs are unaffected.
