CVE-2024-25004Public exploit

Code execution via unchecked duplicated-session username copy

Published Feb 9, 2024 · Updated May 15, 2025

Stack-based buffer overflow in KiTTY 0.76.1.13 and earlier allows context-dependent attackers to execute code via terminal output. The __dt handler in kitty.c passes the username substring to strcpy, which copies it into a 256-byte stack buffer without checking its length. A KiTTY user must connect to a host that emits a crafted duplicate-session ANSI sequence; successful exploitation executes code with that user's privileges.
