CVE-2024-24957Network attack vector

Heap corruption via unchecked path terminator index

Published May 28, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Out-of-bounds write in AutomationDirect P3-550E firmware 1.2.10.9 allows remote attackers to corrupt heap memory via UDP packets. The FileSystem API handler for IMM 0x0F0E uses an attacker-controlled path length as an array index when writing a terminating null byte at offset 0xb6aa4, without validating that the index remains inside the heap packet buffer. The unauthenticated Programming Software Connection service listens on UDP port 9999, so network-reachable attackers can corrupt adjacent heap data and interrupt PLC operation.
