Unauthenticated PLC crash via oversized CurrDir length
Published May 28, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Heap-based buffer overflow in AutomationDirect P3-550E 1.2.10.9 allows remote attackers to crash the PLC through a crafted UDP packet. In the CurrDir error path for UDP port 9999, memset clears the fixed-size request buffer using an attacker-controlled path length, overwriting trailing heap allocations. No authentication or user interaction is required, and successful exploitation interrupts PLC operation by crashing the device.
