Password enumeration via distinct comparison responses
Published Mar 15, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024
Observable response discrepancy in Surya2Developer Hostel Management System 1.0 allows remote attackers to enumerate stored passwords. The unauthenticated check_availability.php handler queries all stored password values for the supplied oldpassword value and returns distinct match or nonmatch text. Repeated guesses reveal whether a password exists in any account, but the response does not identify which account uses it.
