JavaScript execution via faulty CDATA boundary detection
Published Feb 7, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Cross-site scripting in CKSource CKEditor 4 before 4.24.0-lts allows remote attackers to execute JavaScript through malformed HTML. The core HTML parser previously tokenized content while tracking CDATA state, allowing malformed closing markup to escape Advanced Content Filtering. Exploitation requires user interaction and either full-page editing or a filter configuration that enables CDATA elements, including script or style.
