CVE-2024-24794Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Code execution via duplicate Sequence-tag double free

Published Feb 20, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

Use-after-free in Imaging Data Commons libdicom 1.0.5 allows attackers to corrupt memory by supplying a crafted DICOM image. In parse_meta_sequence_end(), a duplicate Sequence tag makes dcm_dataset_insert() destroy an element, after which the caller destroys the same element again. An application must process the malicious image; the double free can crash the process and corrupt memory sufficiently for arbitrary code execution.
