DNS lookup hang via unhandled parser error
Published May 8, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Denial of service in Go standard library net before 1.22.3 allows remote attackers to hang DNS lookups with a malformed DNS response. The extractExtendedRCode function ignores an error from Parser.SkipAdditional, so the parser position never advances and its loop repeats indefinitely. An attacker must control or impersonate a DNS responder queried through the pure Go resolver; a triggering reply consumes CPU and stalls the calling lookup.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
