Application hang via missing object value
Published Mar 5, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Denial of service in Google Protocol Buffers Go before 1.33.0 allows remote attackers to hang applications with malformed JSON. Decoder.Read accepts an object-closing brace where a field value is required, causing protojson skipJSONValue to loop on EOF. Reachability requires attacker-controlled JSON and either a google.protobuf.Any value or DiscardUnknown; the process consumes CPU until interrupted.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
