Unauthorized data access via unchecked virtual-dataset SQL
Published Feb 28, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Incorrect authorization in Apache Superset before 3.0.4 and 3.1.0 allows remote authenticated users to read unauthorized data. CreateDatasetCommand accepted virtual-dataset SQL without passing it to security_manager.raise_for_access for database, schema, and table authorization. Exploitation requires a custom role with dataset-write permission but without all-data access; a crafted virtual dataset can then expose rows from otherwise restricted sources.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
