Privilege escalation via unchecked service-account policy edits
Published Jan 31, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024
Improper privilege management in MinIO before RELEASE.2024-01-31T20-20-33Z allows remote authenticated users to expand S3 access. The UpdateServiceAccount handler let an access key edit its own session policy without requiring admin:UpdateServiceAccount, overriding inherited S3 restrictions. A service-account access key with inherited admin actions can replace its limited policy and read or write data across the deployment.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
