Sibling-directory traversal via unterminated path prefix
Published Feb 1, 2024 · Updated Jun 17, 2025
Path traversal in Pixee Java Security Toolkit 1.1.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to reach sibling directories through ZIP entries. ZipSecurity.isBelowCurrentDirectory compares canonical path strings with startsWith but leaves the trusted directory prefix unterminated, so sibling names sharing that prefix pass the guard. Exploitation requires an application to use the affected method as its traversal control and expose attacker-controlled ZIP entry names; higher-level paths remain blocked.
