CVE-2024-24454Network attack vector

Cellular service crash via malformed ProtocolIE_ID

Published Nov 15, 2024 · Updated Aug 26, 2025

Invalid memory access in the MME of HPE Athonet Core 11.0 through 11.6 allows remote attackers to crash cellular service via S1AP traffic. The proprietary MME mishandles the ProtocolIE_ID field in a crafted E-RAB Modify Request, causing invalid memory access; the programmatic root cause is undisclosed. Repeated connections and payload delivery to the LTE S1 interface require no credentials and can keep the cellular network unavailable.
