CVE-2024-24444Network attack vector

Service interruption via unclosed SCTP descriptors

Published Jan 21, 2025 · Updated Jul 5, 2026

Resource exhaustion in OpenAirInterface CN5G AMF 2.0.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to interrupt service through repeated N2 SCTP connections. The sctp_receiver_thread function removes disconnected sockets from its fd_set but fails to close their file descriptors, so repeated connections exhaust descriptors. Network access to the N2 SCTP interface is required, but no AMF credentials or user interaction is needed; exhaustion prevents new control-plane connections.
