AMF crash via unchecked NGAP decode failure
Published Jan 21, 2025 · Updated Jul 5, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in OpenAirInterface CN5G AMF 2.0.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to crash the AMF with a crafted NGAP message. ngap_app::handle_receive ignores the asn_decode return value and dereferences fields in the zeroed NGAP PDU after decoding fails. Exploitation requires network access to the AMF's NGAP path; one malformed packet can interrupt cellular service until the process restarts.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
