CVE-2024-24432Public exploit

MME crash via truncated NAS packet length

Published Jan 22, 2025 · Updated Jan 28, 2025

Reachable assertion in Open5GS 2.6.4 and earlier allows attackers to crash the MME with a crafted NAS Tracking Area Update request. A packet length divisible by 256 is narrowed from int to uint8_t in ogs_kdf_hash_mme, becomes zero, and trips the message_len assertion. The attack requires a path for sending NAS traffic to the MME and interrupts cellular-core service by terminating that process.
