CVE-2024-24402Public exploit

Root escalation via replaceable npcd executable

Published Feb 26, 2024 · Updated Mar 24, 2025

Privilege escalation in Nagios XI 2024R1.0.1 allows local users with nagios shell access to execute commands as root through npcd. The nagios account can replace /usr/local/nagios/bin/npcd, while an allowed service-management command starts that path as root. Access to the nagios shell is required; successful exploitation grants root command execution.
