CVE-2024-24279Public exploit

Local privilege escalation via authentication-result tampering

Published Apr 8, 2024 · Updated Aug 27, 2024

Improper authentication in NewQ secdiskapp 1.5.1 allows local users to gain administrator privileges in the management program. The vsVerifyPassword and vsSetFingerPrintPower paths trust EAX authentication results that a local debugger can alter after invalid password or fingerprint input, converting failure values into success. Low-privilege local access, the security USB, and debugger control are required; successful exploitation permits adding or deleting users and reading, altering, or deleting protected drive data.
