CVE-2024-24195Network attack vector

Service interruption via misaligned zone-file load

Published Jun 6, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Undefined behavior in robdns commit d76d2e6 allows attackers to interrupt DNS service when a crafted zone file is loaded. In insert_block_into_catalog, zonefile-insertion.c casts a byte-buffer offset to unsigned* and dereferences it without ensuring four-byte alignment. Reachability requires the server to parse the affected record layout; public sources do not specify whether the availability loss is a crash or another interruption.
