Subscriber-level script execution via unescaped nickname
Published Apr 24, 2024 · Updated Aug 9, 2024
Stored XSS in Utopique Better Comments before 1.5.6 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript through a crafted nickname. The plugin places the stored account nickname in avatar markup without sanitizing the value or escaping it for the HTML attribute context. Subscriber access is sufficient to save the payload; it runs when a user views the affected profile, a post comment, or another page displaying the avatar.
