CVE-2024-23984

Secret-data disclosure via insufficiently filtered RAPL readings

Published Sep 16, 2024 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

Observable discrepancy in the Intel Processor RAPL interface allows privileged local users to infer secret data through energy measurements. MSR_PKG_ENERGY_TIME_STATUS exposes package energy readings without sufficient filtering, preserving correlations between processed data and measured consumption. High privileges and local access are required; repeated power analysis can recover secrets such as cryptographic keys across trust boundaries, including from SGX enclaves.
