CVE-2024-23944

Child znode path disclosure via unchecked watch events

Published Mar 15, 2024 · Updated Jul 3, 2025

Missing authorization in Apache ZooKeeper allows local users with parent access to disclose child znode paths through persistent watch events. When DataTree triggers a persistent watch event, NIO and Netty server connections deliver the event without checking read permission on the event path. Exploitation requires access to the watched parent; it reveals full child paths, which can contain usernames or login IDs, but not znode data.
