Authenticated arbitrary file upload via path traversal
Published Jan 29, 2024 · Updated May 29, 2025
Path traversal in Sven Nierlein Thruk before 3.12 allows remote authenticated users to upload files outside the intended dashboard directory. The Panorama _task_upload handler joined a user-controlled location to usercontent_folder without resolving and verifying the resulting absolute path. Any authenticated user with dashboard upload access can overwrite writable server files or fill disk space; command execution additionally requires a web-accessible executable destination.
