CVE-2024-23807Network attack vector

Application crash via freed DTD entity dereference

Published Feb 28, 2024 · Updated Jan 22, 2026

Use-after-free in Apache Xerces-C++ 3.0.0 through 3.2.4 allows remote attackers to crash XML-processing applications via external DTDs. In IGXMLScanner and DGXMLScanner, a Janitor deletes declDTD after it is pushed to ReaderMgr, which later dereferences the freed entity. Reachability requires attacker-controlled XML and enabled external DTD processing; the resulting invalid memory access can terminate the host application.
