CVE-2024-23772

SYSTEM file creation via manipulated data directory

Published Apr 30, 2024 · Updated Aug 9, 2024

Path traversal in Quest KACE Agent for Windows 12.0.38 and 13.1.23.0 allows local users to create arbitrary files as SYSTEM. The KSchedulerSvc.exe, KUserAlert.exe, and Runkbot.exe components use a user-manipulable data directory without restricting file paths to their intended location. Low-privileged access to the Windows endpoint is required; successful exploitation writes attacker-chosen files with NT Authority\SYSTEM rights.
