Local code execution via enabled Electron fuses
Published Jan 28, 2024 · Updated Jun 16, 2025
Code execution through Electron fuses in Kap 3.6.0 and earlier allows local users to run Node.js with the app's macOS permissions. Enabled RunAsNode honors ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE and turns the application binary into a generic Node.js process whose code inherits Kap's TCC grants. Electron disputes remote exploitability because attackers must already execute commands on the machine; the added consequence is reuse of Kap's granted data access.
