Local inherited-permission code execution via Node fuses
Published Jan 28, 2024 · Updated May 29, 2025
Code execution in Discord for macOS 0.0.291 and earlier allows local users to run Node.js code with the app's inherited permissions. The enabled runAsNode fuse makes Discord honor ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE and launch as a generic Node.js process, while enableNodeCliInspectArguments accepts debugger arguments. Electron disputes the remote attack claim because exploitation already requires command execution or physical access, although launched code inherits Discord's macOS TCC permissions.
