Local privilege escalation via toast queue flooding
Published May 7, 2024 · Updated Dec 16, 2025
UI misrepresentation in Android 12, 12L, 13, and 14 allows local users to hide warnings when apps read clipboard data. NotificationManagerService appends app and system toasts to the same queue, so app-generated toast flooding delays the clipboard-access warning; the correction prioritizes system toasts. A locally installed app needs no additional execution privileges or user interaction, and the bypass conceals clipboard access rather than granting broader code execution.
