Cross-site scripting via unescaped upload filenames
Published Jan 19, 2024 · Updated Jun 2, 2025
Cross-site scripting in SPIP before 4.1.14 and 4.2.0 through 4.2.7 allows remote attackers to execute JavaScript via uploaded filenames. The Bigup client code in javascript/bigup.js and javascript/bigup.utils.js displays attacker-controlled file names without first escaping them as HTML. Exploitation requires another user to interact with the affected upload interface, and the script executes in that user's browser context.
