Unauthenticated root code execution via stack overflow
Published Jan 25, 2024 · Updated May 29, 2025
Stack buffer overflow in libdec2lha.so in Symantec Messaging Gateway 10.5 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute code as root. Public advisories identify the affected LHA-decoding library but do not disclose the vulnerable function or unchecked operation. Anonymous network access to a listening service is sufficient; successful exploitation grants root-level control of the appliance.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
