File disclosure via external entity expansion
Published Jan 17, 2024 · Updated Jun 2, 2025
XXE in Spreadsheet::ParseXLSX before 0.30 allows attackers to read system files through a crafted XLSX document. XML::Twig is initialized without the no_xxe option, so parsing workbook XML resolves attacker-declared external entities and incorporates referenced local data. The crafted workbook must be opened or otherwise parsed by a consuming application; exposed data becomes available through the parsed document.
