Code execution via wrapped GGUF string length
Published Feb 26, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
Heap-based buffer overflow in the GGUF parser in llama.cpp Commit 18c2e17 allows attackers to execute code via a crafted model file. gguf_fread_str adds one to an attacker-controlled 64-bit string length without checking for wraparound, allocates the resulting undersized buffer, and reads the declared bytes into it. Processing the file is required, after which the overwrite can crash the process or enable arbitrary code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
