SYSTEM code execution via unvalidated CreateFile path
Published Jul 17, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024
Directory traversal in SolarWinds Access Rights Manager 2023.2.4 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code as SYSTEM. The CreateFile method passes a user-supplied path to file operations without validating or constraining its destination. Network access to the ARM service is required; SolarWinds describes an authenticated user, while ZDI states that authentication is not required.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
