Local system crash via unchecked IOCTL pointer
Published Feb 13, 2024 · Updated May 19, 2025
Out-of-bounds read in Vba32 Antivirus 3.36.0 allows local users to crash Windows via a crafted Vba32m64.sys IOCTL request. The driver's 0x22200B handler copies up to 0x802 bytes from an address supplied through lpInBuffer into a global driver variable without validating the pointer. Low-privileged local access is required; an invalid address triggers a system crash, while no read result is known to reach user space.
