Local privilege escalation via SMEM boundary validation failure
Published Jul 1, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024
Memory corruption in Qualcomm kernel SMEM firmware allows local users to escalate privileges through malformed partition entries. The qcom_smem_alloc_private and qcom_smem_get_private paths in drivers/soc/qcom/smem.c traverse and size private-partition entries without sufficient boundary validation, allowing corrupted entry metadata to drive out-of-bounds memory access. A low-privileged local foothold is required; successful exploitation can compromise confidentiality, integrity, and availability within the kernel context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
