CVE-2024-23337Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Process crash via oversized array index

Published May 21, 2025 · Updated May 21, 2025

Integer overflow in jq 1.7.1 and earlier allows context-dependent attackers to crash the process through an oversized array index. In src/jv.c, jv_array_set passes index 2147483647 to jvp_array_write, where adding one overflows a signed integer used to grow the array and causes invalid memory access. Exploitation requires jq to evaluate an attacker-influenced filter or JSON structure; only the jq process crashes, with no reported data disclosure or modification.
