CVE-2024-23269

Protected-file modification via code-signing downgrade

Published Mar 8, 2024 · Updated Apr 2, 2026

A downgrade flaw in macOS 12 before 12.7.4, 13 before 13.6.5, and 14 before 14.4 allows local users to modify protected files. AppleMobileFileIntegrity accepts downgraded code under insufficient code-signing restrictions, but Apple has not disclosed the exact validation path or operation. Exploitation requires a locally executing app on an Intel-based Mac; the bounded consequence is unauthorized modification of protected file-system content.
