Cross-site scripting via unescaped interface messages
Published Jan 12, 2024 · Updated Jun 20, 2025
Cross-site scripting in MediaWiki PageTriage allows remote authenticated users to execute script in another user's browser. Multiple PageTriage views insert configurable interface-message strings into DOM-building operations that interpret embedded markup instead of assigning escaped text. Exploitation requires permission to modify interface messages, and the script runs when another user opens the New Pages Feed and activates an affected control.
