Crash via expression parser array under-read
Published Jan 19, 2024 · Updated Jun 20, 2025
Stack-buffer underflow in SWFTools 0.9.2 allows local users to crash swfc by supplying a crafted SWFC script file. parseExpression reads four bytes before the beginning of the stack-allocated chr2index array while evaluating the crafted expression. Execution requires a user to run swfc on the file; the demonstrated consequence is an AddressSanitizer-detected abort, while the public record does not establish code execution.
