CVE-2024-22915Public exploit

Code execution via freed SWF tag write

Published Jan 19, 2024 · Updated May 30, 2025

Heap use-after-free in SWFTools 0.9.2 allows local users to execute code by inducing another user to process crafted swfc input. While swfc ends an SWF, removeFromTo calls swf_DeleteTag after swf_FreeTags has freed the tag, and swf_DeleteTag writes through the stale pointer. The proof of concept requires a user to run swfc against supplied input; it demonstrates an out-of-bounds write and AddressSanitizer abort, while the CNA states code execution.
