CVE-2024-22769Known exploitationPublic exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated command execution via timeserver injection

Published Jan 23, 2024 · Updated May 30, 2025

OS command injection in Hitron Systems DVR HVR-8781 1.03 through 4.02 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands. The /cgi-bin/system_ntp.cgi handler passes the timeserver POST parameter to the operating system without neutralizing shell metacharacters. Access requires management-interface authentication, but observed attacks used default administrator credentials to install Mirai-based malware and enlist DVRs in a DDoS botnet.
