CVE-2024-22749Public exploit

Crash via unbounded compressor-name copy

Published Jan 25, 2024 · Updated Jun 16, 2025

Buffer overflow in GPAC 2.3 allows context-dependent attackers to crash MP4Box via a crafted media file during DASH packaging. In gf_isom_new_generic_sample_description, an unbounded strcpy copies the input compressor name into the fixed-size entry->compressor_name buffer. Exploitation requires a user or workflow to process attacker-controlled media with MP4Box; the demonstrated result is an abort, while code execution has not been demonstrated.
