CVE-2024-22705

Kernel disclosure or crash via malformed SMB2 request

Published Jan 23, 2024 · Updated Jun 5, 2025

Out-of-bounds read in Linux kernel ksmbd before 6.6.10 allows local users to expose kernel memory or crash the system via an SMB2 request. smb2_get_data_area_len miscalculates the Name length when CreateContexts is present, causing smb_strndup_from_utf16 to read beyond the request buffer. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access and can disclose sensitive kernel data or interrupt service through a system crash.
