Drone impersonation via unauthenticated Remote ID packets
Published Feb 6, 2024 · Updated May 15, 2025
Authentication bypass in Dronetag Drone Scanner 1.5.2 allows attackers to impersonate drones by broadcasting crafted Remote ID packets. The app directly displays identity, location, and flight data from Wi-Fi or Bluetooth Droneid packets without authenticating their origin. Reachability requires a nearby transmitter; forged signals can conceal a drone's identity or flood the display with ghost drones.
