Cross-site scripting via attacker-controlled response type
Published Jan 23, 2024 · Updated Jun 17, 2025
Cross-site scripting in Ben Busby Whoogle Search before 0.8.4 allows remote attackers to execute script via a crafted element URL. The element method fetches attacker-selected content, and send_file returns it with the attacker-controlled src_type value as the HTTP content type. Exploitation requires a victim to follow the crafted link; script runs under the trusted Whoogle origin and can read or alter data available to that browser context.
