CVE-2024-22365Public exploit

Login-process hang via FIFO path substitution

Published Feb 6, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026

Denial of service in Linux-PAM on Siemens RUGGEDCOM ROX before V2.17.1 allows local users to block affected login processes. In pam_namespace, protect_dir() opens a user-controlled path without O_DIRECTORY, so a substituted FIFO makes openat() wait indefinitely. The target must use a polyinstantiated directory beneath a user-controlled location; planting the FIFO causes a later login for that user to hang.
