CVE-2024-22268

Guest-triggered service interruption via unchecked shader copy

Published May 14, 2024 · Updated Mar 27, 2025

Heap buffer overflow in VMware Workstation 17.x and Fusion 13.x allows guest OS users to interrupt the hypervisor through 3D shaders. The SVGA virtual device copies user-controlled shader data into a heap buffer without first validating the supplied length. Non-administrative guest access and enabled 3D graphics are required; VMware reports denial of service, while ZDI reports hypervisor-context code execution.
